MP:2.7: Choosing repertoire to best reflect the Music Performance criteria We’ll be creating some questions, adding them to a syllabus and test and then reviewing the results to complete the workflow. You can easily use your own audio and notation excerpts in Auralia Cloud, delivering VCE exercises and practise exams to your students regardless of where they are working. MP:2.6: Auralia and Musition 5 - Creating dictation, multiple choice and tapping questions with real music! This workshop also includes tips for building confidence and reducing stress for student and aims to assist teachers to build a performance cultural within music departments so that students can ultimately deliver their best performances. Topics include: presentation, what to do if you make a mistake, dealing with nerves, the inner critic, every aspect of appearance and self/peer evaluation. At 50% of a student’s mark these skills are essential for students and vital for teachers to actively teach. How do we teach the X factor? This workshop aims to give teachers practical activities, and skills for teaching performance excellence. Many believe that it is also the most difficult aspect of music teaching. Anybody can learn to do theory but the actual playing and performing of music is the true ‘art’ of what we do. Keeping students active is key to engaging them, and they won't realise just how hard they are working because revision will seem like fun! We may not be reinventing the wheel, but these classroom activities should make it a lot easier to push. These "games" have been used to effectively differentiate in a combined Unit 2 & Unit 4 class, and can be easily tailored to supported and/or stretch students of all abilities. This workshop is about creating engaging learning activities for students across all units to develop some of the essential skills and knowledge found in Outcome 3. MP:2.4: Engaging learning activities in musicianship This workshop will show you resources, strategies and ideas that will help you teach and support ALL your students at the same time but leaves you with as much sanity as you started with! This is often complicated by the fact that we have to teach Unit 1 skills and knowledge and Unit 3 skills and knowledge at the same time. beginners who can barely read music and advanced students etc. Many of us (if not all) have to teach musicianship to students with wildly varying abilities in the same class e.g. MP:2.3: How to stay sane in a Unit 1 and 3 or VERY multi-ability musicianship, aural and theory class Technical work and exercises are designed based on the elements of Music, to cement the understanding, via the practical application of Music terminology, being directly linked to the Performance Program. Music Performance Outcome 2 - Performance Technique analyse the interpretation of expressive elements of music in pre-recorded works. Music Performance Outcome 3 Musicianship - Analysis This approach combines the skills and knowledge needed for several outcomes, including: melody – students discuss rhythm, dynamics etc but not the characteristics of the melody! This workshop aims to give teachers an approach that highlights a variety of Musical elements and builds on student knowledge progressively throughout the year, to bring depth of understanding with the elements of Music. Previous and current examiners reports, detail the lack of understanding by many students of the elements of Music eg. The structure discussed in this workshop, has had proven success in a variety of settings, and will give practical tips and hints for you to trial. This workshop highlights a practical way of approaching the pedagogy for Multi-study VCE Music classrooms (Units 1-4 - combinations of Music Performance and Music Investigation studies). MP:2.2: Surviving and achieving in the Multi-Study ClassroomĪlthough not ideal, many Music teachers are faced with the daunting reality of having to teach multiple studies in the same classroom.
